JAZZ AND WINE in Italy, vintage 2018, published in 2019
We may remember the 2017 vintage, published just before summer 2018, and then reviewed in our columns (http://lesdnj.over-blog.com/2018/06/jazz-et-vin.en-italie-du-nord-est.html). The end of spring 2019 offered us a new batch of these concerts, still captured in wineries in North-East Italy. The reviewer had to wait for the peaceful rest of August (one would prefer to write Augustinian, but it could be confusing...) to deepen the first quick listening in June and taste, as it should be.
All these discs were recorded in concert in the wine-growing estates of Venice-Frioul-Julienne, between June 4 and 9, 2018... On June 7, at the Domaine Gravner in Oslavia, we enter the experimental field with the Trio Ixi, and a two-part improvisation that reminds us (if need be...) that sometimes improvised music is of a density that seriously rivals the music-save-written-and-contemporary. It must be said that Régis Huby (violin), Guillaume Roy (viola) and Atsushi Sakaï (cello) are three goldsmiths of improvisation, nourished by an active complicity exercised within the Ixi Quartet. Like a bouquet of fleeting beauties that one realizes, minute by minute, that they form a coherent work...
